John Legend has said he doesn’t have much ink. The tattoos he has shared publicly are family pieces: names on both arms, a flower drawing by his daughter Luna and a matching “jack” wrist tattoo with Chrissy Teigen in memory of their son.
In 2019, Legend and Teigen showed matching fine-line tattoos by Daniel Winter, known as Winterstone. His right-arm script reads “chrissylunamiles”; hers reads “johnlunamiles.” Both include Luna and Miles, with each spouse’s name at the start.
The family-name script begins with Chrissy, Luna, and Miles

Vogue described the lettering as delicate cursive. In close photographs, the line crosses the arm in one thin, slightly wavering path, like a heart-monitor trace. Teigen’s version follows the same idea while naming John instead.
The mirrored left-arm inscription adds Esti and Wren

In August 2024, Legend revealed a second family inscription on his left arm: “chrissyestiwren.” His caption said Winterstone mirrored the earlier tattoo with the names of the younger children, Esti and Wren, while keeping Chrissy’s name at the start.
The reveal photo shows Legend reclining with his left arm raised. He joked that the lettering was small enough to need a zoom, a squint or reading glasses.
The new line echoes the fine script on his right arm. Together, the two placements record his family at different points in time.
Luna’s flower drawing became a separate arm tattoo

In December 2021, Winterstone tattooed a flower drawing by Luna on Legend’s arm. The sketch grew from a promise between Legend and Teigen after Luna drew flowers on her father and a butterfly on her mother. Photos show three flowers with fine stems and light outlines; the tattoo keeps the loose shape of the child’s drawing.
Legend had put off getting the design, a story Teigen told on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. When he shared the finished tattoo, he credited both Winterstone and Luna. Audacy, Marie Claire and HOLA covered the drawing and the tattoo session.
The matching wrist tattoo remembers Jack

Legend and Teigen also got matching lower-case “jack” tattoos on their inner wrists in 2020, in memory of their son. Us Weekly and People reported the tribute. The mark is short and sits close to the hand, separate from the longer arm inscriptions.
Teigen has spoken publicly about the pregnancy loss and their grief. In an interview with RND, Legend showed the wrist tattoo and said that he and Teigen both carry Jack’s name.
Winterstone’s fine-line method connects the tattoos

Winterstone is the artist behind the best-documented pieces. Vogue named him for the 2019 inscriptions; later reports credit him with Luna’s flowers and the 2024 tattoo. The fine-line work connects the designs, though each uses it differently: flowing script on the arms, a small floral sketch and a single word at the wrist.
Legend’s tattoos are a small collection, as he noted in his 2024 caption. Their dates are clear: the first family names in 2019, “jack” in 2020, Luna’s drawing in 2021 and the mirrored names in 2024.
The collection is a timeline of family milestones
Close-ups show the lettering, flower stems and wrist word; ordinary portraits can miss them when sleeves cover the arms. The photos establish the designs and placements, while Legend and Teigen’s interviews and captions explain the family stories attached to them.
